Parish of St. Mary's Moston 1869-1969
Mounting block
This stone, formerly belonging to Lightbowne Hall was placed here during our cententary year and is reputed to have been used by Oliver Cromwell during his stay at the Hall. It was presented to St. Mary's Church by the rector of St. Luke's. Lightbowne Hall now demolished was formerly St. Mary's Rectory from 1869-1910.
B. V. Tolhurst 1969
The above is from a plaque which is set into the top step of the mounting block i. e. steps used for mounting a horse (pictured), well it would be if the find a grave staff would accept the photograph (update they have now prevented me from adding any further photographs for the cemeteries bio page). If you would like a copy of the photograph of the mounting block please contact me.
A care home called Lightbowne Hall built in 2011 now stands on the site of the former Lightbowne Hall (formerly the rectory of St. Mary's Church). It's believed that Lightbowne Hall was demolished in 1936 when it was replaced by the Lightbowne pub.
